A fire at the Hynix plant has shut down the factory that makes 15% of the world’s supply on DDR5 for Nvidia VGA cards. As board partners scramble to meet demand we can expect a sharp spike in memory prices and shortages. How much this will affect desktop and notebook RAM is not clear. However production in other plants may be switched over to cover the DDR5 shortages causing shortages in DDR3 in the near future. Our PMs are already saying they will not honor prior quotes on Hynix ram. Some Distys have frozen all RAM sales until they know what affect there will be on cost. So be ready for a price spike on RAM.
